Being a new parent can be stressful, and although we have new parents, old parents, single parents, and married parents, there is only one kind of perfect parent.  A perfect parent is one who always tries and loves unconditionally.  We will all make mistakes in parenting, its human nature to make a mistake.  We can sometimes yell a little loud, sleep a little long or other endless things that we will look back on and think “hum I probably shouldn’t have done that”. 

Itzbeen has come up with a little resource to help eliminate some of those mistakes or if you’re like me, remind me not to make as many.  Pocket Nanny was introduced to consumers in 2007 and has won awards from Juvenile Products Manufacturing Associations and IParenting Media Award.  With that being said, I can understand why.

As a “Seasoned Parent” (or old, but I prefer seasoned), I would love to say that I even to this day remember to give my children their medications when they are sick like clockwork.  But I don’t, so I couldn’t even begin to expect a new parent to remember things like medication or time schedules for nursing/feeding.  The pocket Nanny has reminder software to help you remember how long it has been since you have changed a diaper, fed your child, how long they have been asleep, or when you last gave your sweet baby their medication.  Along with the counting “how long since” there are optional alarms you can set for a maximum time limit. 

For nursing mothers, there are even convenient nursing features to help keep track of which side your baby last fed from. 

What do I like most about Pocket Nanny?  As moms we carry around way too many things, but pocket nanny has a easy clip you can attach to your diaper bag or shirt and it’s only about the size of an I-phone but a little thicker.

Oh I only wish I had received my set of Bluapples before I threw away the latest batch of bananas.  The Bluapple’s are an ethylene gas eliminator, so what does that mean for you? You will never hear me complaining about giving the boys a new toy that keeps them busy while I get some work done.  So as soon as homework was completed yesterday I gave the boys their new Aerobie Skylighter Flying Disc. 

Jeramiah and Maison love playing Frisbee but this was the icing on the cake with the soft rubber edges it was easy for them to both throw and catch.  I will only tell you as my readers that after I finished catching up on e-mails, I spent a little time with them playing as well.  The Aerobie Skylighter Flying Disc was perfect for all of us!

Now why is it called a Skylighter?  Because the design is built in with LED lights that brightly illuminate allowing great night play!  We had a meeting in town last night and luckily we remembered the Aerobie Skylighter because it kept the boys busy outside and was the smoothest meeting we have had in a long time without interruptions.  PERFECT!!!

We love the Aerobie Skylighter Flying Disc and I can’t wait until it warms up some more so the kids can spend more time outside playing with it, especially at night.  The night use was really neat!

Henry's World

Henry's World

Trying to get Mr. Maison to sit down and read is like pulling teeth…. I understand that he reads all day at school and his little braid is tired when he gets home but he still has homework to do and part of that is reading. 

When we received a package from Henry’s World this week I knew it would be tough to convince him to sit down with me.  So I told him, “let’s read just a few pages and then you can go play”.  We picked out Henry & Tink a Remarkable Romance, and before I knew it, we were finished with the book and he was asking me to read it again and again.    The story is about a 2 legged puppy named Tink and a three legged cat named Henry and although they both realized they were very different from other animals they loved each other unconditionally.

Another member of their family, Dolly, created a workbook to help children explore their feelings. The boys actually sat down together and shared this workbook as they each took turns working through the pages.  Wow, my kids can get along!! The feelings workbook help kids understand and learn how to express their feelings rather then keeping them all bottled up.  I think this is a great addition for any child because feelings can be confusing sometimes and these workbooks help children work through it at their understanding levels.

I have become a firm believer in Henry’s World books and workbooks. We will soon be ordering more.  The ability that animals have to get a message through to a child, specifically my children, or other individual is sometimes more powerful then sitting here and repeating myself over and over to my kids.

One of the things I love the most about Henry’s World is they are 100% not for profit.  All of their proceeds go to helping more individuals and sharing the stories of Henry and Tink to as many people as possible.  Not to mention, these books they so graciously share are made with care and high quality.  These will last a long time in our house.

While the book is not a daily task list, there is a sweet memo for every day of the year that simple tells her thought for the day about the love of her life.   These sweet moments are expressed in a very easy to read context and personally make me reflect on my own love of my life. 

“Nothing is better than your whispering words of love in my ear”, (PG. 19 for February 1^st.)  Sweet thoughts like these are followed by a brief description of how these moments make the bond and love grow stronger for her and her husband. 

I really look forward to reading a part of this book each day throughout the year. My husband and I have a remarkable bond and I know something like this can only make it stronger.

If you are looking for a family friendly company, with kind, respectful, and most of all helpful employees, then I strongly encourage you to check out Diaper Goop.  Developed in 1989 by a group of pharmacists, Diaper Goop has been used by babies, children, adults, and seniors all over the United States. 

Diaper Goop is scent free and glides on without leaving an oily residue on your finger, I found this alone comforting because I can remember having to really scrub my hands after using some creams on my sweets.   And then there was the diaper creams that smell horrible; this is not the case with Diaper Goop it’s scent free.  Produced in Little Rock Arkansas the goop comes in an easy to open container which is a major plus when it comes to our sweets squirming and worming around during a diaper change. I know I have had a few of those wiggle butts who want anything except to get changed, what about you?  The design is perfect. 

Now this is not your normal diaper rash treatment cream because not only will it help with diaper rash on your little sweet but the cream is useful for all types of skin irritations.  And I decided to put it to the “adult” test! 

I get a horrible heat rash on my leg behind my knee, weird right?  It doesn’t usually bother me until recently it actually started itching and slightly burning.  Guess I have been sitting here at the computer to much lately.  After a full day of applying the cream the rash has dried up and is almost gone.  3 days later, you can’t even tell it was there to begin with.

Watch for more updates on Diaper Goop from us.  While this is just one story we will publish, I know we will have several more.  If it worked this well on a rash I can’t wait to see how it works for Miss Aly.

KleenSlate

While we recently let the boys save up their money and purchase their own tablets they still have to earn them each and every day.   I thought this was a good idea to keep the use limited and make sure they stay focused on other daily activities.  But we kept earning them pretty simple; good days at school, getting their homework done, and doing at least 2 chores.  That’s not too bad I thought. Well even after the kids have earned their tablets and have unlimited games available at their fingertips they still picked up the KleenSlates they received in the mail.  As a matter-a-fact, Maison has played with his purple KleenSlate for hours tonight and even longer last night!  Jeramiah has doodled countless drawings and Maison is “practicing his handwriting” he says. 

                While some kids sit in the same house or even the same room and text back and forth, the boys are writing messages and simply holding them up facing each other to write.  Yes, my kids are goofballs and I will say it over and over again. 

                Straight out of the package the boards came with a marker that attaches easily which is great for my boys because they are just like their mother.  They would lose their heads if they weren’t attached!  But what was exceptionally helpful is the fact that each and every marker has the perfect eraser on the cap. My first though, YAY less pieces but this really made it a lot easier for them to draw and start over again and again.    

                As bed time neared the boys were told to pick up their things and get ready for bed.  KleenSlate includes a carrying bag and a towel for quick clean up.   Maison the even figured out that the microfiber towel easily attaches to the end of the handle.  I am very impressed with how attracted the boys are to the KleenSlates, they love them and I more than love that!  It’s so nice that they have found something other than T.V and video games to play with, and in all reality they have spent way more time on the KleenSlates than they do anything else. 

I recommend KleenSlates to teachers, homeschooling parents, and anyone with a kid under 90.  The markers are low-odor, non-toxic and completely kid friendly.  Thank you KleenSlate, my boys love you and I love that!

Paris Goes to San Francisco

Recently I was introduced to the My Friend Paris series.  These adorable books are filled with brilliant and bold colors while appropriate for all ages.  Out of the series, I read Paris Goes to San Francisco, written by Liberty Morris and I really found this particular book pretty informative.  While Paris is searching for a special gift, she goes through San Francisco explaining all of her favorite places in the town and why they are important and interesting to her. 

At 7 and 9, even my boys enjoyed this book!  My oldest Jeramiah was excited because Paris tells how her great grandpa helped build the Golden Gate Bridge just like their papa! We are planning a trip to California within the next year and Paris Goes to San Francisco made the boys even more excited to go!

“Paris Goes to San Francisco”, will also make an appropriate gift for Miss Aly who just turned 2 this month.  Jeramiah is already excited and ready to read it to her and what a great opportunity for them to bond.  

Story time is a favorite in our house so I was glad that I was able to enjoy this adorable book right along with my children.  I would absolutely recommend you pick this one up, and I as well will be checking out the rest of the series real soon.
