Getting our outdoor gear together starting with Helens Kit

The kids are really starting to spend more and more time outside which is great!  But they are reckless!  I'm constantly losing dishes due to them getting left outside and then broke either by them or the elements of the weather.  It really REALLY makes me crazy some days!

So when I came across Helens Kit, I knew I needed a set of these stainless steel drinking cups.  They are dishwasher safe, unbreakable, won't rust, chip, melt, or fade, and I can put vinyl on them!  So I can personalize each cup and know who left theirs outside irresponsibly.   Plus, they are easy to clean!  Our plastic cups are constantly getting tea rings left in them because of the ridged interior.  These are smooth and easy for even Miss Layla to wash.

Layla using her Helens Kit cup while painting outside.  I
Love that if she leaves it outside it's not going to be ruined
by the time they bring it in!
These cups are great!  The stainless steel keeps the temperatures of the drinks cooler longer and the indestructible design is perfect for my kids!

The mesh bag that they come with makes these perfect to throw them with the camping gear as well!  These are a must for our busy house and are totally something we would buy again!

A new gadget we love! Zoku Ouick Pop Maker

Question #1:  Do you ever get one of those kitchen gadgets and it's like "WHY HAVEN'T I SEEN THIS SOONER!"
Question #2:  Do you remember the popsicle makers that you pour juice in and then have to wait hours for them to freeze so you never really ended up using them and in a drawer they sit?

We got the ZOKU Quick Pop Maker a couple weeks ago and the kids begged every single day usually 10 times a day to use it... They were starting to drive me crazy but I really hadn't felt like digging it out because I hadn't been to the store to get anything to put in it.

Well hubby took Jeramiah to the store and he bought his own Kool-Aid to use.  Go figure right?  That's what I call old school kiddo! OK So at that point I had no reason to continue saying no.

Before I knew it the kids all had popsicles and hubby was in the process of making more!  I used to hate making popsicles because when you want one, you still have to wait for several hours.  By the that point, I would either not want one anymore or have eaten something else already.  Now we can make them in minutes!!!

So right from the get go, I put the ZOKU in the freezer and that's where we store it to keep it ready at all times.  Sometimes if we're making several batches we have to put it back in the cold in between but usually we can pour our liquid in, toss it back in the freezer for a couple minutes (this is how we keep it colder longer) and after a few minutes it's done!

It's of neat how this is designed because the popsicles come out absolutely perfect!  They are smooth and shinny and they stay on the sticks really well plus the sticks have a drip guard.  It also comes with a "Super Tool" that helps pop the popsicles out easily.

So far the kids make popsicles out of Kool-aid  (I still think that's cute!)  But hubby and I have used Strawberry Yogurt and they were incredible!  I'm thinking maybe some fudge pops out of a chocolate pudding and oh how about creamsicles too!!

The ZOKU Quick Pop Maker totally makes me smile because while I figured the kids would have fun with it and use it a million times over the summer, I never thought hubby and I would too!

Be sure to check out ZOKU Quick Pop Maker and seriously look into getting one!  We love ours and we can't wait to share great popsicle recipes all summer long!

Giveaway: Organic Alternative for Baby Kolton's Laundry with Friendsheep Eco Dryer Balls

I pulled Baby Kolton's blankets out of the dryer the other day and I thought I was going to get shocked to death with all the static!  Holy smokes! I used a dryer sheet but only one because they have a lot of scents and perfumes on them.  I don't want to expose his newborn sensitive skin to that yet.

Then I remembered there's such a thing as wool dryer balls, so I started looking for companies online that not only carry them but have the best quality materials.  I came across Friendsheep Eco Dryer Balls and decided they were the ones.  Let's travel back to Nepal where the dryer balls are individually hand made for fair wages from 100% premium organic New Zealand Wool.  We can use these dryer balls over a 1000+ times, so what's that a weeks worth of laundry in our house?  No, really, they should last a little while which is nice!

The Friendsheep Dryer Balls are biodegradable, chemical free, scent free, hypoallergenic, and last but not least baby safe!  How do they work?  You simply toss them in the dryer with your wet clothing and they tumble with and in between your clothes. The dryer balls soak up moisture and allow additional air flow drying your clothes faster and reducing wrinkles and static!

So what do we think?  I love that they are made of 100% organic wool and are chemical and additive free!  I love that they completely replace my dryer sheets (which I'm almost out of anyways darn the luck). If one day, I want the scent in my clothing like that which comes from dryer sheets, I can add some essential oils but for now I like that they are safe for Kolton.  I love that they help dry his clothes faster and his blankets are less "shocking" when I'm trying to put them away.    Oh and I LOVE how stinking cute these are!  Friendsheep has several different designs.  Aren't these koala ones just too cute?!

I also received a set of Organic Fabric Freshener. They are these cute little shapes that are loaded with their signature scent "Sun is Shining".  I loved the blend of lavender and orange so much that I put them in my car!  My car smells amazing now!  They are up front by the dash under the middle console and when I open my trunk I can smell them! Plus they're not overpowering when I'm up front.  I love these little boogers!  Plus eventually when the scent wears off, I can just add some more and they are usable over and over again!

Ambrosia Scents- A wax melt replacement

I've officially unplugged my wax burner and put it away in the garage!  Why? Because I got a new cordless wax free scent canister from Ambrosia Scents the other day.

Check this out!  My traditional wax burner is constantly plugged using electricity.  My Ambrosia Scents canister comes with a charger.  I think it took just a couple hours to get a complete charge and the canister will stay charged for up to 3 months!  No wasting electricity there!

The wax burner keeps a hot light bulb to keep the wax hot enough to stay melted.  My Ambrosia Scents canister is cool to the touch all the way around.  This is so much safer for Baby Kolton when he starts crawling. I knew I would eventually have to give up my wax burner, I just never thought I would find a safe alternative.  There's not any wax that he can get a hold of and burn himself or even spill.  There's no mess at all!   The Ambrosia Scents canister uses a light yes, but then a fan to distribute the scent throughout the room.

But where does the scent come from?  These cute little Ambrosia Sachet pack a powerful scent and are placed just on the top of the canister and then a lid goes on them to keep a uniformed discrete look.

The scent sachets are pretty neat also! They come with the S hook you see to the left and the strap that wraps around the decroative button comes up so they can be hung anywhere!  I'm thinking closet, car, behind the trash can.  The possibilities are endless!

Ambrosia Scent is a great wax melt replacement!  After giving them a try, I'm not sure I'll ever go back to traditional wax melts...  It just makes so much since to utilize a product that doesn't burn constant electricity, doesn't include hot wax or a hot pot, and there's nothing to spill!  Why use anything else?!  Be sure to check them out at the following links!

Kyocera Sonic Wave Sharpener

Knives, scissors, blender blades, carving tools, fishing hooks and pruning shears. What do they all have in common? They can be sharpened by the Sonic Wave battery operated sharpener, which is why we're giving it a try. I love ordering tools that have so many different uses! Multi-use tools just save so much room, money, and are so convenient!

When we received the Sonic Wave Sharpener, hubby took off with it right away. Figures.... But there he was first sharpening his pocket knifes, then a couple work knives. I've caught him using it several times since we received it and I'm so glad it's going to be a tool that he continues to use rather than just sitting in a box somewhere.

Between hubby and the boys, they have so many different knives for hunting, fishing, work, and other recreational activities it's ridiculous! Maybe it's a man thing, I dunno! Jeramiah says “because when they get dull we need a new one”. Maison I think just likes collecting things. And hubby... Ok, I do understand he loses them occasionally and needs a new one for work and then WAM the old one is found again. Well boys, now you can sharpen the ones you have and don't have to buy anymore!

I'm completely comfortable with both boys using this hand held Sonic Wave Sharpener. As long as they leave the attachment on it, there's a clear guiding guard that prevents the knife from slipping out of control.

I like how easy it is for me to hold it and I can use it on my crafting scissors and garden tools. The button is easy for me to turn it on one handed while holding my tools in the other hand. The Sonic Wave Sharpener really is easy to use, even for me.

Be sure to check out the Sonic Wave Sharpener by Kyocera at their website and links below;

Ozeri Tower Fan Review- Perfect for small places!

Spring is right around the corner and I'm so ready to have the windows open and the fresh air flowing through the house! Our house is rather small, which I guess helps with the electric bill but leaves for a hassle to have a big stand up fan in the living room or any room in the house for that matter. I just feel like they get in the way...

I came across the Ozeri Tower Fan a few months ago and we have already gotten a ton of use with it! I know spring is still technically around the corner but we have been using it to circulate some of the heat throughout the house and its been perfect so I know it will be great for spring and summer too!

The Ozeri Tower Fan set up is has a super slim design being only about 3-4 inches thick but stands 44 inches tall with three separately controlled fans. And get this, controlled by sleek buttons on the fan or a remote! Wow we (as a generation) are getting lazy but that's totally OK because this pregnant lady totally appreciates the ability to turn the fan off and on with the remote!

My favorite feature with this fan is how quiet it is even with all the different airflow patterns. There are actually 3 pre-programed airflow patterns and with the 3 different fans and 3 different fan speeds, there are up to 9 different levels of airflow. The Ozeri Tower Fan just seems so unlimited! Oh oh oh!!! Let's not forget the timer on it that can be programmed in 30 minute increments for 7.5 hours!

This has got to be one of my favorite fans we have ever owned. There are just so many different features and setting possibilities. Be sure to check out the Ozeri Tower Fan at the following links;

Etched Glass DIY with Ozeri Serafino Double-Wall Thermo Glasses

I honestly love crafting and love learning on new projects even more, but I'm pretty sure one project I won't try again is etched wine glasses.... The curve in the glass has driven me just about crazy and I have had lots and lots of trial and errors... What I have learned with etched glass is just make life simple and find something flat! That's after about 20 wine glasses in the trash. Oh my....

Hubby loves these glasses we got from Ozeri. They are “Serafino Double-wall Thermo Glasses”. He thought they looked pretty cool and I thought they were neat because they are heat resistant, freezer, microwave, and oven safe. Oh and shatter resistant, lets not forget that with 3 very “graceful” children in the house!

With all the glass etching I've been doing hubby requested I put “Mom” and “Dad” on these two cups. Maybe a soft attempt at preventing the kids from stealing these ones? But the tops are much more straight than the wine glasses, I figured why not.

First I cleaned the cups with some rubbing alcohol and applied my vinyl design I cut with my Cameo 3. I love that machine!! After I got the design applied and all the bubbles worked out I used some masking tape to protect the rest of the cup. The etching cream is extremely potent and I've noticed the fumes even etching around the glass. Note the trial and error......

Once the rest of the cups were protected, I dabbed the etching cream to the showing glass from my design. After a couple minutes I moved the cream around to enhance the etch but I have noticed it doesn't really matter if you leave the cream on 5 minutes as directed or 25 minutes the etch is basically the same.

After The cream had some time to work its magic, I took it to the sink and rinsed with warm water in addition to using a cloth to wipe away any excess cream. Again trial and error and several wasted glasses. Make sure you wipe away as your rinsing but still be cautious not to get any cream on your skin. It's extremely hazardous and even warns to utilize protective clothing (gloves) while using the cream.
When the glasses are wet the etched design is barley visible. I gave them a good dry and BAM there it is!

Next thing I need to learn... How to take better pictures of glass.  Sorry these kinda bite!  I'm still learning though just as we all do!

These glasses from Ozeri were perfect to personalize! They're so unique and different than what you usually see in the store. I love the hand blown glass design and the double-wall design is great for hot drinks! While I won't be doing any more wine glasses for awhile.... I would love to do some more glasses like these! A Kitchen Makeover with Giani Granite

Spring is in the air and with that comes spring cleaning, rearranging the house, and doing some remodeling.  When we bought our house three years ago, we knew it needed some major updates but updates means money and money doesn’t grow on trees.  So little by little we are getting there and this month’s project seems to be new kitchen counters.  Well like new…
Before

Our kitchen counters are in fair shape.  They were white, stained, and well just ugly and new granite countertops is just not something we can afford right now.  So I found Giani Granite which is a super easy and very affordable way to update any countertop.

This was a process I was able to do all on my own, which just adds that much more excitement and joy into it because there aren’t very many “house updates” I can do without the help of hubby. First I prepped the counters by giving them a good cleaning with a scuff pad and taped off where I didn’t want the paint.

Primer
The primer was super easy to apply.  I just rolled it on lightly as directed and then let dry. If you have any doubt, Giani Granite even sends you a How to DVD which I found very informative!

The next step was adding the colors.  At first I started to doubt myself, like I do with any project.  DON’T DO THIS!! IT WILL TURN OUT PERFECT! Hubby reassured me that granite itself is full of flaws so there was no way I could mess this up if I followed the directions.  Of course he was right, after I applied all three colors I really started to fall in love with the way it was turning out.

The top coat I thought was the trickiest, but like I said, I really doubted myself for no reason what so ever.  I think maybe I am a perfectionist and worry to much at times because these turned out way better than I could have ever hopped for.

Can we pretend they are real granite? Of course!  They are beautiful and I absolutely love the way they turned out!  I am choosing to do one side of the kitchen at a time because you have to let them cure before you can put appliances back on them.

After a few days, you can put light objects on them but it’s recommended that you wait 3 weeks before heavy appliances and our microwave is seriously heavy! I have about another week before I can move our appliances around and I can’t wait to finish the entire kitchen!  Don’t worry; I’ll be right back here with completed pictures as soon as I’m done.  Next step is the backsplash and the rest of the counters!

While you wait, be sure to check out Giani Granite at their following links.  For a fraction of the cost, you can update any countertop and the results are amazing!

New SKOY Products at Momma's House

A few years ago I was introduced to SKOY cloth and I have been a loyal customer ever since. I keep a set of SKOY cloths on hand in the kitchen because they do an amazing job at soaking up any spills, drying up the counters, and they are long LONG LONG lasting for helping me keep the kitchen clean. And when I say long lasting I mean once they get dirty or a little dingy looking from cleaning with them, I simply toss them in the washer and they come out good as new again. I truly love the SKOY cloth!
Yellow is brand new.  Blue is after being washed about a half dozen times and folded up in my holder.

So when I found out SKOY now offers a towel and scrubs I was super excited and just couldn't wait to get my hands on some. This week I received the SKOY towel and the SKOY scrub. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SKOY!

Yes, this towel is a little dirty but what do you expect after using it three nights to dry dishes and this morning to clean counters.  Off to the wash it goes!

I opened the towel and scrub up right away and put them to the test! The scrub is a great replacement to my traditional dish sponge and scouring pad. The scrub is rough enough to get the hardest cooked on foods right off my pots and pans but still gentle enough to use on my glasses and glass cook top stove. Since they come in a two pack, and are made from cotton and a non-toxic hardener I'm keeping one scrub in my kitchen and one under the sink for “other area's” like the bathroom and floors. Yup I said it the FLOORS! I almost always do my floors by hand, I know call me crazy but I like to get down close where I can see better and make sure I'm getting all the nooks and crannies. The scrubs are stout enough to handle even the grout and tile flooring.

So how about that towel... Several months ago we did away with the plastic dish strainer that sits beside the sink. The boys do the dishes after dinner and for the life of me the one thing they could never remember to do is tilt that plastic strainer up and let the water drain so it was getting nasty and I just couldn't handle it anymore. Yea sure I could go back to doing the dishes myself but that's their one consistent chore besides keeping their stuff picked up out of the living room and they really have got to learn eventually. When we got rid of the strainer, we simply began using a towel. Easy enough but it doesn't always allow the glasses to sit correctly and dishes easily fall over because towels are thick. It's really like a non-win situation....

The SKOY towel is thin, but just as absorbent as the SKOY cloth, and extremely soft.  That was the first thing Maison said when I told him to use it to dry the dishes last night.   Made out of recycled polyester it measures 18x24. We've been using it to both let dishes dry on top of and dry the dishes as they are being washed. I love it! Plus the design is just too cute! We got the blue towel but it also comes in red and green and is two sided. My favorite feature though of all the Skoy products, once the towel got kinda dingy I simply tossed it into the washer and it was good as new!

Now it's your turn to try SKOY!  SKOY is giving us the opportunity to host a giveaway.

Gratitude Gift Bags

I recently ran to the store to get a roll of wrapping paper for a single present and noticed the sky rocketing price… What in the world is going on that a roll of wrapping paper cost just as much as the gift I am wrapping? So here I am on the search for more reusable items to save us both some cash in the long run.

One of the items I have found is Gratitude Gift Bags which are an eco-friendly fabric gift bag that you can use over and over again saving money and time because they are so easy to use and take seconds to tie up.

One thing that surprised me is the quality and effort that goes into making these bags, assuring they will last for a long time. I was also delighted to find several different designs and learn that you can actually provide your own material to them and they will custom make your bag for you.

Between the different sizes and the different designs, these are a great buy for any occasion!

Premium Quality Backseat Organizer

As soon as this Backseat Organizer arrived I took it out of the package and was really excited to get it in the car!  I love how much room it saved me. I actually took the "emergency" diaper bag out of the car and put all the essentials that were in it into this organizer. The organizer holds everything so perfectly and is a much better option than digging through a bulky diaper bag.

The organizer is perfect and just what we needed! It features special hooks at the bottom which were a great idea because instead of hanging and flapping away it's held close to the seat which just gives me that much more room.

Crayon Rocks

Although my kids are older, they still love to draw, color, and make huge messes with their creations! So when I found Crayon Rocks I figured we would give them a shot. Are these not the cutest little crayons ever? These Crayon rocks are made from pure natural waxes made from American soy beans.  The shape and size of them are also perfect for younger children to prepare their fingers and hands for pen and pencil use.  What a neat little tool to help develop fine motor skills.

Crayon Rocks was developed by a special needs teacher after 23 years of experience.  Barbara’s teaching history made her realize just how important it was for children to develop a tripod grip and that is how the shape of Crayon Rocks were developed.  A tripod grip is using a your first and second finger and thumb, which is essentially how you hold a pencil so you can also understand how your childs hand writing skills will depend on this technique later on in life.  My personal thought, why didn’t someone think of this when I was a kid, my handwriting stinks!

These non-toxic soy wax crayon rocks are made right here in the United States, Kentucky to be more exact.  Please check out their website for more information and how you can get your own Crayon Rocks.  I plan on getting a few more sets for Easter, wouldn’t these be the cutest basket stuffer?

BunnySlippers.com

As I have gotten older, I have found more and more traditional items in my home.  I forgot how much fun a pair of slippers could be!! Check these out, I picked out the Black Bear Paw slippers because of how different they were and I have to admit they are extremely warm and comfortable!  Why haven’t I tried these sooner?

BunnySlippers.Com has so many different kinds of slippers from animal slippers, novelty, and character slippers, I was amazed with the different selection.  I also found microwaveable slippers, light slippers, and sock slippers on Bunnyslippers.com. I can’t wait to try the microwaveable slippers, my feet are always cold and I pretty much wear slippers any time I’m home.

I also really liked the quality of the slippers.  Although they ship internationally for orders, Portland OR is their home, so these are not going to be your cheap slippers that fall apart right after you get them.

If you want to do some shopping for the whole family, I suggest checking out Bunnyslippers.com.  There is really the perfect fit for everyone from cute and cuddly and then back to traditional slippers.  Even Jen snuck in on some Bunny Slipper action!

Getting your pool ready?

Ahhhh… That moment when you realize it’s finally time to actually open up the pool so you can enjoy the refreshing water all summer long.  But wait, there’s a lot of work into opening the pool including all the cleaning and chemical testing.

A few years ago we switched to a Salt Generated Chlorine Pool and I love it!  It was the best choice we had ever made. I ordered the Hayward Aqua-Rite Chlorine Generator from InTheSwim.com and have been a lifetime customer ever since.  The generator automatically senses the pools chemical components to let you know what you need to add and with a touch of a button you can increase the chlorine flow.  That feature is great for the days we have 15 or 20 people swimming.  My favorite and most used feature though is it tells me exactly what the temperature of the water is before I jump in! What we spent on the Hayward Aqua-Rite Chlorine Generator was about half of what we were spending in chemicals for the summer, so this for us was a very amazing purchase!

Another order from Intheswim.com this year is the very new SaltDip Digital Pool Chemistry Tester.  This little gadget is so easy to use and it even comes with the batteries.  The large LCD Screen and the two simple buttons make it really easy to use.  The tester measures not only the salt content but the total dissolved solids and the water temperature in one easy spot.  There is never any calibration needed so even I can use it.  I love this thing especially compared to the old colored dip sticks that you really had to guess and compare because this is easy as the numbers are very simply displayed.   Another great feature and one I have been taking advantage of is the memory function because it stores the previous measurement.  This made it really easy to tell if we were making progress or not.

So... to all my friends and family, the pool is almost ready.  According the the SaltDip we needed to add two more bags of salt this year and we did that last night.  Everything should be ready to go in a few days, so come swim!
InTheSwim.com is my place to go for all of my pool needs!  A few friends and I even order our toys from them and they always seem to last a long longer plus the prices are amazing!  Be sure to check them out at the following links;

Getting Rid of Snakes

How fast can your kids run? Well mine can run pretty darn fast when one of them reaches down to pull weeds and pulls a snake out instead.  Oh my goodness I heard a squeal and by the time I turned around they were from the far side of the pool to in the house, I swear in 2 seconds flat!  Of course I had to laugh so hard, but in all reality I know without a doubt I would have done the same thing!

Around Easter we found that a family of snakes had made a home in an old tree stump right outside the pool yard.  YUCK YUCK YUCK!!! My sweet little neighbor lady told me to order Snake-A-Way. 5 Minutes later I was on the Snake-A-Way Website requesting my bag! Like I said, I HATE SNAKES!!! YUCK YUCK YUCK! Plus I told hubby that I wasn’t mowing this year until they were gone!!

I got the bag of Snake-A-Way and it was so simple to spread all over the yard, but of course the instructions helped.  It’s been a few days now and I have walked through the yard where we found all the snakes several times without seeing a single one.  This is a huge difference from seeing at least a few everyday.  YAY!!!  I guess I have to mow now but that’s ok because I like to anyways.  Oh and this means I can have the boys pull weeds again! YAY!

Thank you Snake-A-Way you are my hero! And thank you to my sweet neighbor for telling me about you guys because otherwise I would have spent the entire summer locked up in the house.
